John Bishop was the only known child of Joseph Bishop and his wife Elizabeth (née Clements) of Soham, Cambridgeshire, although it's likely that there were other children that have yet to be researched.
He married Elizabeth Simpson of Soham and the couple had at least five children.
John appears on the Soham census of 1841, living at Hanst Drove (now known as Hasse Drove) with his elderly parents Joseph and Elizabeth. There is no sign of John's wife, so I assume that she had died by this point. There is also a 7 year old William, John's son. Nearby, and also on Hanst Drove, there is also a 10 year old Henry Bishop, living as a servant. Further research will determine the relationship between John and the children.
By 1851, John's father has died and he appears as an agricultural labourer at Hasse Drove with his son William and his mother Elizabeth - who is at the age of 84.
