When Ann was no more than 10 years old, her mother died of tuberculosis. This left her father, a shepherd, with 8 young children to care for.

He swiftly re-married to Elizabeth Ellinor in 1861, but she died in 1865, leaving her father to re-marry again in 1868 to widow Sarah Washington

After her father took the family up to Lancashire, where many of them took work in the cotton mills, Ann married George Eve, a 'cotton power loom weaver' in 1868. The couple soon became parents to the first of their eventual 14 children.

In 1879, Ann, George, their three oldest children, and Ann's father, boarded the SS Spain at Liverpool and left for New York City. They passed through the Castle Garden Immigration Center, and eventually made it through to the town of Minonk in Woodford County, Illinois, where they set up home. The family, including Ann's father, appear here on the 1880 US Census.

Ann outlived her husband George by 25 years, and she also out-lived many of her children, reaching the age of 93 years in the summer of 1942.
