Mary Dewey
(1846-1914)

Mary Dewey (later Mary Layton and Mary Frazer) was the oldest of the seven child of William Dewey and his first wife Mary Tabraham of Witchford, Cambridgeshire, England.

Mary married John Joseph Layton, a railway labourer of Ely, with whom she had six children.

Mary was widowed by John when he died aged 39 years, in 1887. Within 8 months, their son Walter followed him to the grave aged 13.

Left as a widow with five remaining children between the ages of 20 and 2 years, Mary eventually re-married in 1894 to a John Frazer (often 'Fraser'), and whilst the couple had no further childre, the younger Layton children lived with them.

Mary pre-deceased her second husband by about 3 years, when she died in 1914. Her youngest son Alfred Layton was sadly killed in Ypres, Belgium just a few months later in 1915 during the First World War.
