Edward Moden
(1828-1867)

Edward Moden was the fourth of the nine children of William Moden and his wife Rebecca Dolby of Coveney, Cambridgeshire, England.

Edward worked as a labourer in the fenland surrounding the village of Coveney near Ely, Cambridgeshire.

In May 1858, Edward married a heavily pregnant Mary Ann Freeman of Prickwilliow, Cambridgeshire, and the couple soon became parents - taking their daughter Eliza to be baptised just two months later.

The couple went on to have five more children, but just two months into the pregnancy of their sixth child, Edward died of kidney disease at the age of 39 years.

Mary gave birth to their final child, naming him Edward after his late father.

Mary, now a widow with a baby and four surviving children, re-married to David Seymour of Ely, in 1871. This took the Moden family to Ely, where Mary Ann and David raised two Seymour children.
