Susan Taylor
(1833-1916)

Susan Taylor (later Susan Steadman, and Susan Earith) was the seventh of the nine child of Isaac Taylor, and his wife Sarah Gooby of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England.

A young Susan appears with her parents and some of her siblings on the 1841 census at Potter's Lane, Ely.

By 1852, and yet to marry, she gave birth to an illegitimate daughter named Sabina Steadman Taylor - a middle name that left a clue to the identity of the child's father.

Four years later, she married the father - William Crow Steadman who was noted as a "Waterman of Babylon" (the small island facing Waterside) in Ely. The couple had no further known children.

William died somewhere between his marriage to Susan in 1856, and the 1871 census, by which time Susan is noted as a widow and servant, and she is living with a Richard Earith in Ely. Richard would become her second husband the following summer.

Susan out-lived both husbands, and her daughter, and was buried in Ely in the January of 1917.
