Rebecca Dolby
(1798-1876)

Rebecca Dolby (later Rebecca Moden) was the illegitmate daughter of Elizabeth Dolby of Ely, Cambridgeshire, England.

Rebecca married agricultural worker William Moden in 1821 at Ely, and the couple settled down to have nine children over the next 21 years. It seems that only their first-born, William, failed to thrive, and died as a child.

William pre-deceased Rebecca by about 11 years in 1865, and by the time of the 1871 census, she is a widow living in nearby Witcham, Cambridgeshire, with her married daughter Phoebe, son-in-law Alfred Strawson, and their children.

When Rebecca dies in July 1876, she is noted as of nearby Haddenham, but it is not yet clear why she was there - perhaps she was living with another of her children?
