The Dunham family history
The earliest Dunham ancestor that I've located so far was my 7x Great Grandfather William Dunham, when he married my 7x Great Grandmother Jane Caldecote at the parish church of St. Andrew at Witchford in the fenland county of Cambridgeshire, England in 1761. The couple had four children, although their youngest child Francis Dunham was buried 5 days before his mother, who died aged 29.
William re-married the following year to widow Elizabeth Pickerell (née Elizabeth Haylock), and they had two children, again with the youngest child (another Francis) died in 1774, just 3 months after his mother.
One of their surviving children - William Dunham (my 6x Great Grandfather), married Alice Foreman, and the couple had 5 children. Sadly, only one of these children lived beyond the age of 9 years old, and that child was my 5x Great Grandmother Jane Dunham.
Jane would go on to marry John Hawkins in 1815 at Witchford, and together they had 9 children, ending my Dunham ancestry.
Dunham family connections
During my research, I have found three families in Witchford that connect to my Dunham ancestry:
- Caldecote
- Foreman
- Hawkins
