Elizabeth Slack
(1742-1822)
Elizabeth Slack was most likely the daughter of labourer Jeremiah Slack and his wife Rose Fanham of Soham, Cambridgeshire, England.
Elizabeth married John Clements of Soham, and together the couple settled down to have a family of seven children (5 sons, 2 daughters), of which the second daughter ('Edy') died as an infant.
Elizabeth was outlived by her husband John, who lived until he was 91 years - a remarkable age for that period of history (he died in 1831). Perhaps this longevity was genetic - their daughter Elizabeth also reached this age.
Sadly, their grandson Robert Bishop was not so lucky, as he was killed when a large roller crushed him at a 'Mr Slack's farm' in 1817. Whilst this 'Mr Slack' would not have been Elizabeth's father, it is likely that her grandson died on the farm belonging to one of her brothers or nephews.
