The Jeffery family
The earliest record I have located for the Jeffery family, has them appearing in the city of Ely, in the county of Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, in 1782.
This first appearance saw my 6x Great Grandfather William Jeffery marry my 6x Great Grandmother Mary Suffolk at Ely's Holy Trinity Church. Whilst Mary was a native of Ely, it is unclear as to where William originated.
The couple remained in Ely where they had at least 5 children including my 5x Great Grandfather (and their only son) Dean Jeffery. He would go on to marry twice and father 13 children, and see the Jeffery surname become established in Ely.
One of Dean's children was my 4x Great Grandmother Elizabeth Jeffery, who was the second wife of my 4x Great Grandfather John Yarrow, a farmer of nearby Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire, England.
Elizabeth's niece, Dorcas Pooley (daughter of her sister Dorcas Jeffery), provides another family link to the Cross family of Ely when she married my 3x Great Grandfather's brother, James Cross.
