Frederick Owen Yarrow
(1865-1944)
Frederick Owen Yarrow was the third of the four children of Owen Yarrow, and his wife Elizabeth Kempton of Little Thetford, Cambridgeshire, England.
Frederick married Esther Howard, a dressmaker of his native Little Thetford, and the couple settled down to become parents to four children - all sons. Sadly, their youngest son Hugh died in his infancy of Marasmus Asthenia.
The family lived for a number of years at The Three Horseshoes public house, next to the village school in Little Thetford, where they worked as publicans, almost right up until their deaths in 1944.
Frederick earned the nickname of F.O, at least amongst the schoolboys nextdoor, and in a letter by one of the school children in later life, in relation to when the boys used to climb over the school fence into his garden, he is remembered as "a smallish man, [who] would come hurtling down the garden shouting words which small boys were not supposed to understand". Esther was remembered as small, kind and conciliatory by contrast.
Frederick and Esther died just weeks apart in 1944.
